Ovāda is a Pali term that means exhortation, advice, or instruction. Just like in the Buddha’s time when he would instruct, encourage, rouse, and urge his listeners on the path, so too the talks on Dhamma from our teachers of today. 

We warmly welcome you to this new event where we can ask for guidance from our Dhamma teachers.

We are delighted to welcome Ven. Dr. G. Chandima to Ovāda: Encouragements from Dhamma Teachers. He will give a guided meditation, Dhamma talk, and Q&A. The program starts at 9:30 a.m. 

Venerable Dr. G. Chandima is an Assistant Professor of Buddhist Philosophy at Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines. A globally respected Dhamma teacher, he regularly leads profound Sutta studies, Dhamma talks, and transformative meditation retreats. His teachings extend worldwide, with regular Dhamma sharings in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Canada, the US, and Japan, touching the lives of countless individuals. 

Ven. Dr. Chandima serves as the Associate Editor of the Journal of International Buddhist Studies (JIBS), published by the Buddhist Research Institute of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University in Thailand. His academic journey includes being a former Research Fellow at the Centre for Studies in Religion and Society (CSRS), University of Victoria, Canada. From 2012 to 2016, he also served as the Theravada Buddhist Chaplain at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, fostering spiritual growth within the university community.

A prolific writer and blogger, Venerable Dr. Chandima is the voice behind the highly regarded blog Patisota (https://patisota.blogspot.com/), ranked 47th among the Top 100 Buddhist Blogs globally by Feedspot in 2025. His most recent article, “The Function and Contemporary Role of Sikkhāpaccakkhāna (Abandoning the Training Rules) in the Pāli Canon,” was published in the Journal of Buddhist Ethics under the Pennsylvania State University Press, USA. Venerable. Dr. Chandima’s unwavering commitment to the study and dissemination of Buddhist teachings continues to inspire and guide practitioners and scholars across the globe.
